*Upcoming policy papers or surveys for release or out for comment*
*Spectrum Policy Brief - Community Networks*
The Community Network (CN) campaign team will be working with the
Association for Progressive Communications (APC) to draft a follow-on
spectrum paper.  The team expects to circulate a draft at the end of June
for ISOC community review, and to finalize the paper in time for the G-20
ICT Ministerial discussions at the end of August.

*Encryption and Lawful Access Primer*: Prior to the "Considerations
Regarding Encryption and Exceptional Access" briefing in Washington, DC on
12 June, a two-page primer was released to provide a high-level explanation

*APAC Internet Policy Insights*
The APAC Bureau has launched its annual APAC Internet Policy Insights
survey, this year focusing on IoT security. The survey is on its 5th year,
and is conducted online through Survey Monkey. It will run until 30 June.
Key findings will be summarized in a report which will be made available on
the ISOC website.

*Survey: **2018 Global Internet Report – Give us your input!*
Last year, the Internet Society published a comprehensive study to better
understand the forces of change that will shape the Internet over the next
five to seven years: *The 2017 Global Internet Report: Paths to Our Digital

on a new report that takes a closer look at one of those forces and how it
may impact the future, namely *Consolidation in the Internet Economy*

*15th APT Telecommunication/ICT Development Forum (ADF-15)**, **11-14 June,
**Colombo, Sri Lanka*
The APT Telecommunication/ICT Development Forum (ADF) provides a platform
for the APT members including governments, regulators, industry players and
all other stakeholders to discuss ways for development of
telecommunications and ICT.

*IoT Security and Network Resiliency**, June 14 - Virtual Roundtab**l**e*
As a part of the Enhancing IoT Security <https://iotsecurity2018.ca/>
project in Canada, a virtual round table <https://isoc.zoom.us/j/336844310>
will be held on June 14 from 19:00 – 20:00 UTC to discuss how the private
sector can address network resiliency issues. The meeting will be moderated
by Andrew Sullivan.

*Digital Access Day**, **June 19 in Ottawa, **Canada*
Mark Buell will speak about barriers to access and success stories in
Canada.

*Enhancing IoT Security Multistakeholder Meeting**, June 21, **Ottawa**,
Canada*
The project will hold its second multistakeholder meeting in Ottawa on June
21 to continue discussing IoT security through consumer empowerment and
network resiliency.

*Central Asian IGF  June 21-21, **Astana, Kazakhstan*
The 3rd Central Asian Internet Governance Forum (CAIGF) brings together
stakeholders from the five Central Asian countries to discuss topical Internet
policy issues. ISOC will launch its paper on Internet Connectivity in
Land-Locked Countries at this year's CAIGF and discuss IoT security in the
context of emerging technologies. Maarit Palovirta from ERB will attend the
CAIGF.

*3rd APT Preparatory Meeting for PP-18, 18-21 June, Melbourne, Australia*.
Asia-Pacific Telecommunity member economies will gather to present and
discuss contributions, and to formulate common proposals for the upcoming
ITU Plenipotentiary Conference. Noelle de Guzman will participate

*ISOC Community **Discussion** @ **ICANN Panama **, 26 June, Panama City*
Seizing the opportunity of the ICANN meeting in Panama and the presence of
the ISOC community there we will be hosting a conversation on the potential
effect of national laws on the global Internet. The discussion will use as
an example the GDPR but will also go beyond that in order to identify the
possible impacts that extraterritorial laws may have.  June 26th from 12 to
13h30 pm at the Hard Rock Hotel. You are also invited to an ISOC cocktail
reception on the 27th at 19h00 (Hard Rock Hotel). If you want to find out

*ConnecTechAsia, 26-28 June, Singapore*.
Olaf Kolkman will speak at a high level panel on IoT Security at this
year's ConnecTechAsia, a key industry event for ICTs in Asia-Pacific. We
will also have a booth at the exhibition hall.

*Mobile World Congress Shanghai, 27-29 June, Shanghai, China.*
Organised by GSMA, MWC Shanghai is among the biggest global meetings for
the mobile industry. We are co-sponsoring the IoT Summit, and Frederic
Donck will speak on IoT Security.




*Highlights of Recent Activities*
*RightsCon** 2018, **May 16-18**, Toronto, Canada*
The Internet Society successfully engaged at RightsCon 2018, reaching new
audiences on community networks and advocating against shutdowns. A joint
statement

with Access Now to #SwitchItOn and #KeepItOn was released. Kathy Brown
spoke in the Opening and called on the rights community to join forces to
safeguard the core of the Internet as an enabler of Human Rights online.

*APAC and ME Regional Chapters' Workshop*.
The APAC and ME Bureaus held a joint RCW to work with chapter leaders in
both regions in planning activities around our 4 campaigns for 2018. The
workshop was held on 11-12 May in Kathmandu, Nepal

*IoT European Summit, 15-16 May Brussels,* *Belgium*
Frederic Donck spoke on IOT Trust by Design at the Data privacy and
control: Empowering the Smart Consumer, Enabling Innovation session.
Frederic's remarks during the session and a direct link to OTA IoT Trust
Framework was also included in the event report.

*OMAC Roundtable on Community Networks*
On 23 May, the ISOC Community Network (CN) Campaign team organized a
Roundtable to engage OMAC members, ISOC's CN-SIG, ISOC's Georgian Chapter,
APC, and other interested parties to discuss key aspects of community
network development, challenges, and ways and means for collaboration.  The
CN campaign team hopes to hold more of these events in the future.

*SEEDIG, 23-24 May, Ljubljana,Slovenia*
Ceren Unal spoke at the Fellowship Session and Youth School on Day 0 on
Colaborative Governance. On day 1, Frederic Donck was a speaker on the high
level session on Digitalisation&Digital Policies in SEE and he gave insight
on our work in the region and Internet futures from a development
perspective.

*EuroDIG 5 – 6 June, Tbilisi, Georgia*
The European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG) 2018 had a focus on
reinforcing the multistakeholder model, Internet access, and emerging
technologies. The ISOC team (Raul Echeberria, Walid Al-Saqaf, Frederic
Donck, Ceren Unal, Maarit Palovirta) contributed to ten sessions covering
topics such as Internet access, privacy, IoT, artificial intelligence, data
economy, and blockchain. Larry Strickling, who leads ISOC's Collaborative
Governance project, delivered a keynote and contributed to sessions about
the future of the multistakeholder model and the IGF(s).

*I**nnovation, security, and the Internet of Things**, ** June 6**,**
Ottawa**, Canada*
As a pre-event for the G7 in Canada, ISOC organized a panel

that brought together Internet experts, industry influencers, senior
government officials, consumer associations and thought leaders to discuss
IoT security and privacy.

*Considerations Regarding Encryption and Exceptional Access*: On June 12
from 9:30am – 1:00pm in Washington, DC, the Internet Society held a round
table on encryption and lawful access, under Chatham House rule, for
congressional staff.  Experts discussed the technical aspects of
encryption, risks associated with creating back doors, and other technical
means for lawful access. More information is available here:
