Please find the recent ISOC Beyond The Net Newsletter below. In the
current round ISOC-NY does actually have an application for a large grant
in on behalf of NYC Mesh, but that dos not mean that other members cannot
submit projects. Even if you get rejected the BYN staff may well help you
understand why, and how your application may be improved to resubmit in the
next round. Reading below will give you an idea of the sort of thing they
are looking for, but original ideas are welcome!

We are pleased to announce the completion of our LAC Chapterthon! After six
months of planning and execution of different projects from six of our

*Sri Lanka Chapter | A new vision for the physically challenged*
Soon, the first group of 10 blind people will learn how to use the Internet
for their day to day activities. The first phase of the project is now

*South Africa Gauteng Chapter | Upgrading the Zenzeleni Network*
Ten nodes have been added to the WiFi mesh, already upgrading the Zenzeleni

This Community Grants project has produced a Local Web Content Observatory
System to show how much Internet content is in one of the three local
languages (Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigrigna). An important first step in

*Nigeria | The W.TEC Programmes for Girl*
It started in 2012 with an ISOC grant, today The W.TEC Academy is an
after-school technology club, which runs throughout the academic year. It
presents technology in an engaging way, with the aim of attracting more
girls to pursue technology careers. Read more

* Armenia Chapter | Internet Radio for the visual impaired*
The official opening of Radio Menq (We!) took place on May 30. The team
developed and recorded many programs related to the issues of people with
disabilities. The radio will serve as a platform for parents of blinds,
specialists, social workers, pedagogues... Read more
